Stories fr Sibu Part 1

The past one week blog ni macam almost dead kan. I dunno what got into me, i just wasnt in the mood for anything.

Back to stories from Sibu, the workshop i conducted is 80% sama dengan program kat KK dulu. Maybe sebab dah ada experience, this time i lebih cool & ada idea sikit what to expect. This is the first time i pergi Sibu. Again, i travel sorang saje dari KL and terus check in di RH Hotel, Sibu. This is the latest and the best Hotel in Sibu, i was told. Anyway, the ministry yang arrange semua....not my choice. Hotel best ke tak best ke, i terima aje.

Masa i check in the reception tengah discuss cari bilik yg dah siap....and i was given Room 425. I was lucky rasanya i patut dapat Deluxe room je yang ada 2 single beds. But i got this room with a king size bed. Ada lounge chair. Boleh guling-guling dari east to west pun tak jatuh katil ;-)..... TV channels pun best sebab ada astro ria, axn. movies and banyak lagi. Kalau masa KK dulu takde masa for TV. This time i relax sikit sempat la rest and watch tv a bit.

I was told, Sibu rata-rata penduduknya keturunan cina foochow (tak tau eja, sorry). Nak makan kena tengok betul-betul ye because banyak tempat tak halal. I checked in almost 3p.m., and walked to nearby shopping complex (luckily dekat dengan hotel...ada bridge lagi link hotel dgn mall) - order personal pan pizza sebab dah lapar sangat. Pizza Hut dgn KFC je yang halal. Lain tu was-was betul. Bawak balik hotel and makan (sambil guling-guling atas katil...hehe)

Masa kat KK i had 17 participants, kat sini 11 only. Itu pun after lunch first day, 2 orang had to leave for something in Putrajaya, tinggal 9. Not a problem for me. Berapa orang pun, jalan terus. But the group work could not develop as well as it should, sikit orang.

Most of the participants are flown in from Kuching. The balance are local from Sibu. Based on KK experience yang susah kena cakap dwi-bahasa because participants are more comfortable with BM....i pun dengan jayanya did the same in Sibu. Lepas sejam, the participants cakap...'Cik Anne (bukan nama sebenar), its ok you dont have to translate. We can understand. If we cant follow we will ask.' Malu & kelakar la pulak....ok la kalau dah cakap macam tu. Rupanya group ni ramai yg overseas educated. Patutla...

Nak dipendekkan story, lain tempat lain pengalaman eventho the program lebih kurang sama. The participants feedback were very good, which is encouraging. Personally, whatever yang i rasa kurang masa kat KK, i tried to improve this round. There is always room for improvement, kalau dapat peluang lagi, Insyaallah.

Participants ni semuanya educators - ada dari schools, ada dari state office. asal usulnya ramai yg cikgu. tapi dah naik pangkat la. I really admire their drive & commitment to do a lot for the education of children in this county. Bunyi macam cliche, but they are for real. When i am among them, i boleh lupakan saja about my fees ke, apa ke, tapi rasa blessed to get the opportunity to share what i know, and my experience, if that can help them do their job better. You should see how they are eager to learn and how committed they are to their profession.

Inspiring group of people.

(On a funnier note, best jugak boleh suruh-suruh cikgu-cikgu ikut arahan i buat itu ini....hehehe.imagine that... just kidding)

Orang East Malaysia sangat hospitable...sepanjang i buat trainings kat Semenanjung ni, tak pernah i dapat token dari participants. Kat Sibu, they gave me kain puakumbu...ala Sarawak handicraft tu- i'm sure you've seen before kan (takde gambar close up la). Kat KK dulu pun dapat kuih tradisional dengan a few souvenirs. Terima kasih la sangat-sangat sebab dia orang ni share-share duit dia orang sendiri.

Part 2 nanti kita jalan jalan pulak kat Sibu.

Memperkenalkan........

Cuba teka buah apa ni??? Cempedak...? Bukan, bukan......
Ni la Buah TARAP.
Takde tau kat semenanjung ni. Kalau ada pun, maybe wild,...orang tak makan.
Masa kat KK haritu, bila time makan je, mesti depa dok promote buah tarap ni suruh i try. Ada
yg bersungguh2 nak suruh i rasa sampai suruh kawan dia pegi beli kat Pasar Tamparuli hantar kat Hotel. Malangnya tak dapat. Tapi masa last day on the way pegi airport, sempat jugak rasa.

Kata diaorang, memang sedap dari durian. Kat luar nampak macam cempedak...tapi size and shape macam durian. Kulit dia lembut. Boleh kopek dengan tangan je.

Ini isi kat dalam, macam spesis nangka & cempedak tapi tak bergetah. Katanya yang muda dan belum terlalu masak (like in the picture) - the best type untuk dimakan mentah. Bila terlalu masak, bau kuat sangat- they sd kalau first time jumpa, mesti lari atau pun tekak tak boleh terima. Jadi mula mula nak rasa, kena cari yg muda. Yg masak, biasanya digoreng buat cucur...macam goreng cempedak kat sini.

Rasanya????

Hehehe....tengok tu muka i macam takut2 nak rasa. Tapi lepas tu 3 ke 4 ulas i makan. Sedapppppppp! not as strong as durian. Lain texture. Tak tau nak explain. Creamy dan manis dia lite lite je.

Kalau you all pergi Sabah, try tau. Dekat area filipino market pun ada jual.

Ni Puan Lee, yang baik sangat bawak jalan2, belikan buah tarap dan hantar i pegi airport.

The Breakfast Meeting

Pagi ni pukul 7.30 dah keluar rumah. Normal untuk orang lain, tapi luar biasa untuk I. Dah lama tak keluar pagi-pagi. Join the traffic jam.
Ada meeting pukul 9, tapi takut terlambat. Tak suka orang tunggu...lagipun first time nak jumpa.

Ada project opportunity, kira cari business la. I la buat kerja, i la cari bisnes...hmmm, takpe takpe. Rezeki tak datang without effort kan.

Anyway, meeting was set at McDonalds Mutiara D'sara. Best tempat ni. Besar, boleh duduk luar, ada wifi, ample parking space. First time datang sini.

I cant even remember the last time makan McD breakfast. A few years ago, memang weekend ritual dgn missQQ.

Dah la keluar awal, tak jam pulak jalan. Pukul 8 dah sampai...hahaha. one hour to kill. So makan breakfast la dulu.

Ish, muka mcm baru bangun...heheh. sumpah dah mandi okay.!

The meeting was a good one. Interesting project - not easy, tapi macam best je. Kalau dapat, i will be very happy.
Ya Allah, murahkanlah rezeki.

...of dissapointments

I think i try hard not to dissapoint people

I hate it when people dissapoint me

...what to do....hmmmmm.

biarkan, biarkan.....

Actually, itu souvenier from MissQQ who just got back from Phuket. Thanks dear!!! Salt & pepper dispensers sebenarnya.

We met up last nite semata2 sebab i teringin Ayam Penyet. Rindu banget....before puasa kot last time makan sini. Semua MissQQ punya pasal sebab dia mention masa kita tengah chatting in the morning. Lepastu, dah sampai sana - rupanya dia dah makan nasi mak dia masak....so i je makan, tapi ada ku kesah....hahahah. Makan tak hengat.

Kat Waroeng Ayam Penyet dekat The Curve ni kadang2 tak berapa nak sedap. But last nite memang best. The tauhu n tempe memang rasa fresh. Tengok la ni.....

The KK Update

Sorry sgt2 kalau ada yang jenguk2 blog yg tak berupdate ni.

I got back from KK late Thursday (23 October). Penat, sakit badan, sakit kaki semua ada. Friday sempat kemas-kemas barang sikit and pergi hantar invoice and barang2 training to the organiser. Sabtu terus sakit. Then Monday, i took a flight balik kampung sebab my mom & sis risau i sakit sorang2 kat rumah. Itu pasal la lambat nak update. Monday baru balik sini.

Ni nak cerita pasal what happened during the KK program.
THANKS to semua yg tinggal komen and best wishes. Semangat dari kawan2 helped a lot.

Alhamdullilah, the training went on better than i expected. Kan i was expecting the worst sebelum pergi. Challenging jugak nak handle group ni, tapi at least i discover my strenght & weaknesses....mcm self discovery la sikit2, a test for me as a trainer yang agak baru ni.

Here are some notes and pics on what happened in KK. Gambar I sendiri takde sangat sebab i yg ambik gambar.

Cik Penceramah

Since i tak pernah buat program gomen, banyak pengalaman baru i dapat. All the formalities i had to get used to. For example, all the protokol, Taklimat lah, Ucapan Pembukaan lah, all the salutations. Despite insisting that they just call me by my first name, through out the programme i was called "Cik Penceramah"...hehe, how weird is that.

Muda....(muda ke??)

The participants majority are almost "warga-warga emas" from the state and disctrict offices. Nak buat joke-joke bodoh pun macam tak kena je. Most of them have adult children and ada cucu dah. Dari mula lagi dah nampak one thing that caught their attention is "how young" the penceramah is. Takde la muda mana pun sebenarnya, nampak je muda. So i had to remain serious and professional most of the time to be convincing and to be taken seriously. Cuma masa last day, and night workshops i let loose sikit. (susah tau awet muda ni u'olls;-D)

Wrong Expectations

Haritu masa jumpa orang gomen kat Putrajaya tu....siap warning i group ni "high level". Setakat nak mention strategy itu ini tak payah la...semua dah tau.

Lagi satu pasal bahasa. I tanya juga materials in English ok ke. No problem also...."peserta kursus" as they call them level tinggi tinggi.

I pun prepare la apa yang patut, sesuai dengan 'pangkat' dan 'kebijaksanaan'.....hmmm. Nan Ado! Dont get me wrong, i am not putting down atau memandang rendah the group. They are professionals in their field and i respect them for that.

Cuma the people in charge dah kasi wrong impression. I prepared myself accordingly. First day one of the participants dah tanya kenapa materials semua in English. So i had to deliver the training dalam BM unprepared. Sambil bercakap otak kena terus translate....bukan la i tak pandai cakap melayu, tapi bahasa untuk formal ni lain...lepas tu some strategic/ management terminologies tu bukan instantly i dapat translate.

And for most of them, ini pendedahan pertama on management concepts. Dah kata tahu semua, i dah prepare macam advance sikit....kena la adjust apa yg patut time tu jugak. Kalau "Change Management" pun ada yg ingat tukar pengurusan, as in the mgt team change.....lu pikirla sendiri!

In the End
Overall, i would say the program was successful. Takde la The Best, tapi they took away some new knowledge that they can use back at work. I nampak they all excited bila buat all the activities and group work. Siap make copies of the flipcharts and presentations so that boleh buat contoh untuk pakai nanti. Anyway, yang penting at the end of the day, the learned something. Masa group work and their final projects, i can see them applying what i shared. They were really committed. Cuma slow sikit, kena work with them in small groups.
Paling suspense masa nak tengok feedback forms. Tak tau la kalau they are generous with their compliments tapi majority kasi very good ratings. What more can i ask kan, sebab i tak expect much. Ada yang jumpa personally kasi compliment. Ada juga yg kasi feedback for improvement.
Latest, the people at Putrajaya ada cakap nak kasi i buat another session of the same program. Puas hati la agaknya. Alhamdulillah, tapi tak nak fikir lagilah.....letih haritu pun tak habis lagi. hehe.
Now, tunggu payment la apa lagi.....

Special Credit:
To Jill yg make time on that Saturday to help me design all the group work & activities. It made all the difference.
To Miss QQ yang buatkan slides for one module within a crazy deadline.

Leaving...

I am leaving for Kota Kinabalu kejap lagi.

Bukan holiday - kerja. Esok sampai Khamis ada training program dengan sebuah jabatan kerajaan.

Which is why since lepas cuti raya, jarang update blog. Tak sempat. Busy preparing.

Stress sungguh sebab projek ni last minute, and banyak la masalah here and there.

Anyway, i am nervous sangat sebab client ni tak kasi i very clear picture of their expectation. Satu lagi first time i buat training untuk "gomen".

Lagi satu program ni siang malam, 2-and a half days. I sorang je handle. Boleh ke? Yang nak datang tu orang2 senior gomen seluruh negeri...nak ke depa dengar aku cakap.

There were days when i asked myself kenapa la aku terima job ni. This time for the money, yes - i tak malu nak ngaku. Itu number 1. Experience no 2. Topik dia pun bukan la i suka sangat, which makes it harder. Kena study dasar kerajaan gitu nak design course ni...ishhh.....

Anyway, dah over one week of sleepless nights and backaches...lets just do it and get it over with.

Thanks to Jill & MissQQ yang tolong with the slides, and kasi ideas.

nampak tak kepenatan & stress tahap gaban......???
Trying to psyche myself up....think positive, think happy. Kalau trainer muka penat dan stress, participant punya first impression dah habis, gone!!!
Doakan everything goes well ya.

Kalau sempat, will update from there.

Steamboat in Seoul??

Wednesday nite, i met up with the girls - Jill & MissQQ. Just to catch up on raya stories. We've been planning a birthday dinner for MissQQ since before puasa - but it never happened. (Babe - birthday present nanti ye!) And Jill also turned one yr OLDER on hari raya ke-4 hahaha, kesian.

Anyways, we had coffee at Old Town One Utama, and then the girls decided to have a Korean BBQ & steamboat dinner at Seoul Garden.

First time for me having anything korean..! If you ask me, its not that different from the normal fare except for that coffee marinated chicken.

Its a buffet, so go when you are hungry and with good company. Stay for hours and hours, and dont dress up in white or yr best clothes coz the hot plate splatters!

Jill got MissQQ this book for her bday: A Single Girl's Manifesto. Suka dia. MissQQ...haaaa, jgn ikut sgt buku tu, go find a man!:-O! (LOL).

I got both girls something even better - Doa ikhlas supaya dapat jodoh yg beriman cepat cepat. See....priceless! Muahahaha.

Getting used to normal life again - rasa senyap sunyi after being surrounded by family yg ramai.

Cerita raya nanti-nantilah. Syawal kan panjang lagi;-)

Mubarak Ramadhan

Selamat Berpuasa & beribadah to all muslim readers.
I dissapeared for more than a week....after that "screwed" post...haha, bukan lari. It was a last minute decision to balik kampung for the long merdeka and awal ramadhan weekend. Hari khamis, which is the day after my training job habis - i lari sana sini cari tiket. Because nak save costs, decided not to drive.
Dari pagi sampai petang tak dapat cari any train or bus tickets for thursday or friday tu. I penakut sikit naik express bus lepas cerita bas terjunam sana sini...so nak naik yg 'brand' baik sikit la mcm Mara Liner, Transnasional. Yg kelakar the last ticket Mara Liner to Alor Star that nite was bought by my brother. Rupanya dia nak balik tak bagitau. I called him up and he was at Jln Duta baru lepas beli the very last ticket. ;-)
Anyways, last-last beli ticket air asia online. Imagine flight is the next day. Mesti la dah mahal. But still cheaper than driving, so ok la.

the bird that carried me home

Spent one week with my family, jaga my dad, tolong mak sikit sikit, dapat la rasa sahur and buka puasa kat rumah, and solat terawih kat masjid dekat rumah. Masjid ni nostalgic sebab kat sini la i kenal solat terawih masa budak sekolah lagi ikut mak.

And now i'm back nak settle hal-hal kerja sikit. Of course nanti raya balik lagi:-)

p/s - saja nak share pic ni. Eve of merdeka, Mak ajak raise the flag. So i panjat tangga ikat flag kat pokok depan rumah. Semua kereta lalu lalang dok tengok apa pompuan ni buat hahaha.
Patriotic tau Mak I;-)
