Stories fr Sibu Part 1

The past one week blog ni macam almost dead kan. I dunno what got into me, i just wasnt in the mood for anything.

Back to stories from Sibu, the workshop i conducted is 80% sama dengan program kat KK dulu. Maybe sebab dah ada experience, this time i lebih cool & ada idea sikit what to expect. This is the first time i pergi Sibu. Again, i travel sorang saje dari KL and terus check in di RH Hotel, Sibu. This is the latest and the best Hotel in Sibu, i was told. Anyway, the ministry yang arrange semua....not my choice. Hotel best ke tak best ke, i terima aje.

Masa i check in the reception tengah discuss cari bilik yg dah siap....and i was given Room 425. I was lucky rasanya i patut dapat Deluxe room je yang ada 2 single beds. But i got this room with a king size bed. Ada lounge chair. Boleh guling-guling dari east to west pun tak jatuh katil ;-)..... TV channels pun best sebab ada astro ria, axn. movies and banyak lagi. Kalau masa KK dulu takde masa for TV. This time i relax sikit sempat la rest and watch tv a bit.

I was told, Sibu rata-rata penduduknya keturunan cina foochow (tak tau eja, sorry). Nak makan kena tengok betul-betul ye because banyak tempat tak halal. I checked in almost 3p.m., and walked to nearby shopping complex (luckily dekat dengan hotel...ada bridge lagi link hotel dgn mall) - order personal pan pizza sebab dah lapar sangat. Pizza Hut dgn KFC je yang halal. Lain tu was-was betul. Bawak balik hotel and makan (sambil guling-guling atas katil...hehe)

Masa kat KK i had 17 participants, kat sini 11 only. Itu pun after lunch first day, 2 orang had to leave for something in Putrajaya, tinggal 9. Not a problem for me. Berapa orang pun, jalan terus. But the group work could not develop as well as it should, sikit orang.

Most of the participants are flown in from Kuching. The balance are local from Sibu. Based on KK experience yang susah kena cakap dwi-bahasa because participants are more comfortable with BM....i pun dengan jayanya did the same in Sibu. Lepas sejam, the participants cakap...'Cik Anne (bukan nama sebenar), its ok you dont have to translate. We can understand. If we cant follow we will ask.' Malu & kelakar la pulak....ok la kalau dah cakap macam tu. Rupanya group ni ramai yg overseas educated. Patutla...

Nak dipendekkan story, lain tempat lain pengalaman eventho the program lebih kurang sama. The participants feedback were very good, which is encouraging. Personally, whatever yang i rasa kurang masa kat KK, i tried to improve this round. There is always room for improvement, kalau dapat peluang lagi, Insyaallah.

Participants ni semuanya educators - ada dari schools, ada dari state office. asal usulnya ramai yg cikgu. tapi dah naik pangkat la. I really admire their drive & commitment to do a lot for the education of children in this county. Bunyi macam cliche, but they are for real. When i am among them, i boleh lupakan saja about my fees ke, apa ke, tapi rasa blessed to get the opportunity to share what i know, and my experience, if that can help them do their job better. You should see how they are eager to learn and how committed they are to their profession.

Inspiring group of people.

(On a funnier note, best jugak boleh suruh-suruh cikgu-cikgu ikut arahan i buat itu ini....hehehe.imagine that... just kidding)

Orang East Malaysia sangat hospitable...sepanjang i buat trainings kat Semenanjung ni, tak pernah i dapat token dari participants. Kat Sibu, they gave me kain puakumbu...ala Sarawak handicraft tu- i'm sure you've seen before kan (takde gambar close up la). Kat KK dulu pun dapat kuih tradisional dengan a few souvenirs. Terima kasih la sangat-sangat sebab dia orang ni share-share duit dia orang sendiri.

Part 2 nanti kita jalan jalan pulak kat Sibu.
