People judge. Fullstop.
I have been judged so much this week. I just finished facilitating a series of brainstorming workshops at a government agency. Every session i meet a different group of people, and get judged over and over again. I just had to write about this.
my workshop venue this past week
When i run workshops/ seminars/ trainings, as soon as i stand there in front of the room, these 20 odd set of eyes looking at me - they judge! If you are older, have white hair, a male, huge tummy - they judge less. But me, i get more than my fair share, especially with the more 'senior' crowd. I can almost see the questions in their head, while they pretend to look attentive and listen.
Some who are more vocal cant wait to catch you during coffee break to validate their judgments. 'Puan anak berapa?' , and oh this one top it all last week ' Puan ni nampak awet muda tapi puan tak muda kan' hahahaha.
Once they get past the looks, they wonder if you are at all qualified to stand there. By lunch, they sit beside you and ask questions. "so, how long have you been doing this"...'oh, before this you kerja mana" "lama kerja kat situ". And the whole table goes quiet, listening attentively. In their heads, they are doing the math - yes, guessing my age. Once in a while, there will be the more forward ones, who goes -' how old are you' - which means they are thinking, you are too young to be telling us what to do.
Oh well.......... i dont think there's anything i can do about it.
However, i learn to judge people less with this experience. Perception can be so deceiving, so dont be too quick to judge. There is more to every person than what meets the eye.
